Yes, most of the time they only start slipping under pressure. You can usually get back to the ramp at idle speed.

Well that is what I was afraid of because my shaft will not turn. We coould here some noise in the motor and I slowed to about 25mph and then all of a sudden it felt like it quit thrusting forward. I think my gears in the low unit are messed up but I hope it is just the prop that spun the hub. I have another prop just need to check the insides out tonight. Thanks for the feed back.

Them factory lower units are weak, get an after market with a low water pick up. 1.62:1 is what I would recommend.

Them lower units are a piece of cake to rebuild yourself if you have to pay someone you better hang on to your hat. Also if you do it yourseld try to find the gears online a whole lot cheaper

I have never been able to afford the tools to set one up correctly. They are pretty simple in design but if you don't get the backlash set correctly you just wasted a bunch of money and time.

the gears in the lower unit have to be precision set..........or, like torch said it will be a waste. I think they have specially mechanized precision tools to calibrate everything and each motor is different......don't ask me how I know this, lol.
