Dorsal fins are the most accurate way of identifying Crappie species. Coloration has a lot to do with water clarity, etc...Only DNA testing is more specific and sensitive than counting dorsal fins.
Upon further review it has been determined that my so called white crappie I released this morning is in fact a SPECK. The 7th spine is broke off but ifn you count where they are coming out of his back there is no doubt he has seven spines. I will accept appologies thru PM, no need in doing it publicly even tho I was rudely and wrongly corrected publicly.
