I can't tell by the xray, but, if it is a broken toe, I had one and the doctor told me all they can do is tape it to the one next to it....my little toe broke in the very back while I was swimming and it was flopping around like only the skin was holding it...it was turned 90 deg. from my foot......while at the beach I pulled it out and forward to re-align it and taped it to the next toe.....later , the doctor said that's all they can do till it heals....

that is a nasty break, I don't think I would run on it.....at least for 2 weeks....sorry she has to go thru this right before the Triathlon.

Man, that sounds like a Meridian doctor. I know a guy here recently who was diagnosed with cancer and scheduled for surgery and a friend of his persuaded him to go to Oschner Clinic in New Orleans for a second opinion. What he had was an infection, not cancer.

By "stay off it" you mean, stop kicking me, right? Thanks, I needed a break.

That's the same thing the military docs told me. Looks like the same bone I broke. Right foot. Wrapped mine with Ace bandage and went back to work. No running, though. I ain't that tuff.
She needs to pick a spot that's softer than yo haid. LOL

BTW, Because I didn't stay off of it as much as possible, I have a bump in the arch of that foot. Calcium build up.

I would think the repetitive impact from running would cause such severe pain that she will not be able to run. If she is able to withstand the pain I would also tend to believe that the fracture would not heal correctly and she could cause herself much pain and aggravation in the future due to a bone spur or something similar. Sounds like this doc may be banking on her coming back for future problems. I would play it safe and stay out of the running shoes for about a month.

The swelling of the foot should be enough to keep her foot out of a running shoe at the very least. I would definitely go to an Orthopedic Surgeon who specializes in foot injuries and fractures.

Campbell Clinic in Memphis is a world-renowned Orthopedic facility. They have the best of the best there and I know a couple of the surgeons there.
