Their are plenty of folks out there that kill for the thrill of it. Laws and regs don't mean anything to them. They sell the meat or even worse leave it to rot. I suspect that's what these guys were doing. It doesn't make a lot of sense to spend $40 worth of gas driving around trying to shoot something to feed your family when you could spend the same money on a sure thing at the grocery store.
The two best times to fish (when it's raining & when it aint). Proud member of team GitDaFeeshGrease

Rip, don't think nothing about causing trouble with me. I ain't offended easily, and I respect others' opinions. Like you said, I was only stating my view on it, and I know it is not exactly a popular opinion. To me, it seems that our primary disagreement is over the definition of "right."
Just curious then, do you bother to buy a hunting or fishing license? By your logic, doesn't buying a license infringe upon your rights to take game anytime your hungry?
Am I a poacher too?
I have called the city for animal control a few times. Never have seen anyone here to help. Squirrels and raccoons do a number on my garden and fruit trees. So I trap and relocate them.
Hey crappie max. I think you live pretty close to me so send me a pm and I will give you my number if u want. I can give you plenty of deer meat and you will not have to break the law. I kill LOTS of deer for management purposes. After killing them they go into a walk in cooler. I process(myself) what my friends and family can eat in one year and give the rest to family's in need. I would be glad to give you your 8 deer and you could save the time and money it takes to hunt deer. It's a sport to me but I do somewhat see what you are talking about. We have laws for a reason though. Without them the supply would be diminished by greed.
You are absolutely right. Having to buy a license reduces the "right" to a "privilege", but I do purchase them as told. I thank God that I am not in such financial condition as would warrant my killing anytime I am hungry, but I do appreciate eating food that is not manufactured or grown by a government that I am certain is not concerned with mine or my family's best interests. Some people are in that condition, and in their cases, I do not think they are wrong to take what they need. The article did not give me the information I would need to make a judgement call in that instance. Ree's said he knew them, and I am happy to defer to his knowledge in this case. In other cases, the result is not clear without knowing the situation. Did they break the law? Sure. The law saying that something is illegal does not affect whether that same thing is or is not right. Are they criminals? Sure. That does not make them wrong though.
Again, this is all my opinion.
I think what you are doing is a great thing. I considered doing something similar, but I don't have the space for storage or the processing knowledge to do it. I appreciate the offer for the deer, but I think it would be selfish and lazy to take it out of the mouths of people who need it. If you have room and if the need is there, I would be happy to donate any deer over my eight to advance your charitable efforts. Let me know where you are if you are interested in some help.
We do have laws for a reason, but the problem with the reason is that it seeks to serve the greater good. When the greater good is protected it is often done so at the expense of individuals. The reason I suspect is to protect the population of animals so that those who want to and have the means to can hunt. The reason does not seem to take into consideration those who cannot hunt very often during a particular season, those who are unlucky in locating animals, or primarily the need of the individuals. I am not opposed to laws in general, but I am opposed to thinking that they should always be applied in the same manner regardless of the circumstances. I am aware that I am being idealistic about this. In this life, I know that laws will never operate to protect those who need protection while also punishing those who need punishment. I suppose we do the best we can with what we have.
Now who's up for a TURKEY dinner with all the fixin's?????![]()
