That cant be good for them. Curious why he piled them up instead of releasing them once he pulled them up and realized they weren't what he was looking for.

My buddy Dylan said he figured out the gill net for crappie this week. He's been trying to catch his tagged fish, and the gill net is working in the shallow water. 397 fish caught and released. 85 fish per netting, which usually takes two hours. Just figured I'd share![]()

He runs the net, pulling it in, the fish aren't out of the water long at all. The only reason he puts the nets out is to recover archival tags that are really expensive. The fish are released as soon as the net is in the boat, which takes about two minutes max to bring in.
what exactly does his study hope to tell ?
Neat.

the nets are in an attempt to recovert the archival gps tags. they log the fish's movement every 4 seconds, it logs where they were and for how long. He has found female crappie in the shallows in many different coves, fish in 20 FOW during prime spawning conditions, and fish that move up to six miles in 24 hrs. It is a study to help us learn more about the movement habits of crappie. Everybody is wanting biological data on the rule changes for these lakes, this is part of the data gathering process that they have
