After 200+ posts, I think this thread has about outlived it's usefullness. Many ideas and proposals (everybody has one) have been aired out, and this should make everyone feel better. However, we now have a fishing reg. in place on Sardis that is probably going to remain in place for the remainder of 2013 at least.
I think that the MDWFP acted in good faith and realized that lowering the size limit to 11" would help folks keep a few more fish., and lowering the creel and pole limits would control the increased pressure. Keep in mind that Grenada has a 3 pole limit since 2007, and folks seem to manage that just fine. "Grenada is probably the best crappie lake in the U.S. ,etc., etc."
The Mississippi Commission on Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, has the sole power to set fishing regs. as established by the Mississippi Code of 1972. While public input and meetings provide needed dialogue, final decisions are probably made from more qualified sources such as MDWFP.
I think the best thing to come out of all of this is that if you see that MDWFP is holding a public meeting about your lake and your fish, you best attend. It won't guarantee that you will get to fish exactly how you want to, but maybe you won't have to fish exactly how the other guy wants to, and we can all smile and say hello when we meet on the ramp!
