just left Oscar at the vets so he can put a port in and get some fluids in him and check his kidneys. He seemed to be doing lots better today. Breathing is still not normal but much better. Vet will said that we will keep the port in him so if when we bring him home and have to take him back they won't have to do it again. It is kinda strange--he is ready and willing to eat at anytime but he won't drink hardly anything still unless we force him to--but the IV will fix that for now. Thanks again for all your prayers as always it's work for us.

Thanks again guys. Well so far after having the IV fluids he's started drinking on his own. Have to take him back tomorrow to see what the blood tests say about it all. Vet said that the fluid on his lungs comes about just like when a person has congestive heart failure (exact same thing my dad had in 2000) so I guess he was having a heart attack when Melissa took him to the vet. I'm feeling like he's going to be ok and probably have to take bp meds moving forward. The blood test was to check his kidneys (kinda the same scenario as with a person) but he's doing his business as normal so that's probably a good sign. Poor thing--the vet left his IV port in so he wouldn't have to put another in tomorrow if he needs another IV. So so far he is doing well and hopefully we will know all tomorrow and can get him on the final mend. On a lighter side when we took him to the vet today--the vet has a cat that roams around the place and I went to pet it and one of the guys that works there said to watch out--that thing will get ya--well I figured I play around with it--was sticking my hand up to him--he'd give it a swat (still has its claws) well my reflexes aren't as good as they used to be cuz on about the 5th poke that thing got me with a tooth and a claw.
Asked if that thing had it's shots and they said yep--why--I said he got me--did it draw blood--yep--you need a bandaid--nope I'm just a JADA FYI if yall ever need a vet Dr. Pattberg is a good one for sure. He's been fixing Oscar and Sophie since they were pups.

Mike, I feel your pain, had one of the Dachsunds that was 15 yrs old, heart was giving out on him also. Wasn't as lucky as you and your wife,, had to put him to sleep, one of the hardest things I ever done to stand there holding him and watch him leave I said I would never ever have another one cause had grown so close to him (just like a son to me) made it little over a year and that's when I went and bought Bella, first long hair Dachsund we ever owned (have had 2 short haired males) and first female. I have grown so attached to her, I sure hope I go before she does
