I never use minners at Okatibbee. It's either jigs and nibbles, crankbaits, or pony heads. I hate to hear that about Lakeway, though. I usually minner fish when I go to Grenada. I may have to stick to jigs there too.

That is the question. Lakeway at Grenada, my official bait stop for twenty years (both crappie bait and pogey bait) is now selling minnows by the ten count. Same price as a dozen used to be, but now only get ten, AND they are counting minnows. No more estimates. No more bonus minnows. Actually counting each and every minnow. 1 minnow, 2 minnows, 3 minnows, ............. 100 minnows. Time consuming and expensive. Might be time to switch to jigs.........
I met a pair of old gents at Wolf Creek Tuesday afternoon, and they had a cooler FULL of slab crappie. Close to two limits. They were spider rigging with chartreuse jigs and crappie nibbles. Fish did not seem to mind that there were no minners on the jigs. I know I know....., crappie at Grenada must have minnows. But Im telling you, these guys did not even have a minner bucket. I was already irritated about the minner count at lakeway, then these two guys wear em out with no minners at all. Might be time to try to teach an old dog a new trick........

Actually, the guberment sposed to do somethin' about them minnow prices. Hurtin' business
Man I hate to hear this but I undestand where they are coming from. I ONLY buy minners when I am in there and have always gotten WAY more than I paid for, they lost money on me everytime I went in the door. Knew the day was coming and have a solution that works for me. I would say minner, side by side day in day out the minner is gonna out catch the straight jig. On Grenada you arent gonna get near as many bites anyway like at say Sardis, not gonna go through as many and almost no throwbacks, bite the bullet and buy the minners..

That would be the last minnows they sold me. I'd don't use nibbles but I'd sure give it a try. Something I tried once and it worked on Butla. My neighbor wanted to jug some catfish one day so I was rigging a couple of poles off front while he was chasing the jugs around. First crappie we caught was a 2 pounder on jug baited with shad. I used a piece of shad to tip one jig and did just as good with shad as minnows. I think it is the smell that attracts them to your jig most of the time anyway.

you know that is what they tell me can't catch fish on jigs at grenada . Donnie will vouch for that . LOL jig and nibbles work fine . it just determination that will make you successful . even ugly can catch one fish . lol
CATCH THEM ALL.
I hate minnows!!

I tend to stack the odds in my favor as often as I can, fast and furious in the skinny water no minners, otherwise unless I am pulling cranks its gonna be minners
