John, on Kentucky lake those guys use a bottom bouncing rig with a bell sinker on the bottom for fishing stumps,brush piles and stake beds. Usually with 2 hooks but sometimes with just one about a ft above sinker. They use the weight to feel along the bottom for structure and keep bait just above. They do this with a pole in each hand. You can use the same basic premis spider rigging. I have gone to making up rigs with the same sliding weight and just one hook below the weight when fishing shallow structure to reduce hang ups. No kind of expert here but just found that works better for me. Still fish a jig tipped with minnow most of the time.
