The ones that are hatched at the hatchery may be sterile, but the wild one do spawn. Been catching them for years out of farm ponds. They do pretty well in ponds over about 2 acres. The only way to be sure you are stocking sterile hybrids is to buy them from the State Hatchery. The Magnaloia Crappie looks identical to a wild bred black stripe crappie. Since black strip crappie are naturally occurring in nature any you catch and take to a pond may very well be spawners.

My nephew was in the class that started this study at state. But the main study was pawn shrimp.
I've caught a few of them.
