For fishing maybe to pull up wire traps or run trotlines??

It does look like that, but this one is a lot smaller. Not much larger than a coat hanger, which won't work, too light..Quote:

I had one similiar I made to take hooks out of a fish caught on a trot line. Also can remove treble hooks from a fish without worryin bout gettin it in your hand.
