I've always liked them there, my only complaint is that they don't sell gas. I usually stop and get most of what I need for a day of fishing in one stop if possible, otherwise I would go to the Dam store more often.
As far as minner counts, good ones are always a bonus but like Feelay said, 4 dozen is still 48. The best strategy I know is to order a few less than what you think you'll need, if you can't see the bottom of the bucket, then you got lucky, buy a lottery ticket. If it looks thin, then order some more or try your luck at the next bait shop :)
This is very true, i do not have a complaint about the minnow count, it is the price. If i can buy minnows everywhere else in the state for $1.10-$1.25 per doz. and you want $2.25 i am not sticking around to see what else i can get hammered with. I know y'all are not getting rich on minnows so like BRM says, use it as a loss leader. If you are known as the cheapest minner store in 5 counties you will be swamped with feeshermen buying ice, cigs, snuff, biscuits, etc. We all like one stop shopping.
enid lake users .if you go to sylvia rena gro/deli ( larry lawlers old place) which is on hwy 32 water valley - oakland, o r mike's on the pope water road if you come in from the northside . you will need at least two buckets if you get 4 dozen and you will have 4 dozen after you fish 8 hrs .:biggrin think those girls give them away to keep from having to sell them .
Pretty good size minners Eagle1?
Although I have only been in the Dam store twice, It was good for me both times.
I must admit, that is funny Carl. I've never counted minnows before but when I opened the bucket it looked like 30 or so minnows. I counted them as I used them and was surprised when I had that many. I've been dragging cranks but the bite slowed down so I had to resort to minnows. Sorry for whinin...
I have always been treated fair at the Dam Store. I have been stopping there for years without any complaints. Considering the money I spend on fuel, boat, truck,etc.. I aint gonna sweat a few dollars extra on the bait. I would hate to think of them not being there. Would make things alot more difficult for me for sure.
Thanks for talking with the owner. I've always liked the Dam Store and it's convenient. I was just steamed when I ran out of minnows around noon. Should have looked in the bucket before I left the store and bought more. I don't mind paying $2.25 per dozen if I get a generous count. Never had that problem before at Dam Store. Hope they get their act together. I'll try them again.
