Myself I have only got short on minnows one time at the damn store and that was the first run at the fj other than that I have always gotten (seems like) at least 2 dozen more than what I pay for I get the ice close to the house though.![]()
i would imagine all of these bait shops near lakes have a stuggle at times. very seasonal and even hard to keep the doors open in dec and jan. sometimes there is no way they can be competitive with the rest of the world and survive, althought 4 bucks for a bag of ice may be a little steep. it seems i get a fair count on my minners and have not had very many die on me during the day from the dam store. i hate to read about the not so pleasant experiences some of you have encountered. as far as the dam store goes i have not had one bad experience and hopefully don't. i agree with donnie, they are nice folks and i am sure they will try to correct any short comings after donnie chats with them.
oh, donnie, i talked to beth one afternoon and told her about c.com, but she said she was not good with puters at all. maybe you can leader in to the site. i am sure she will do what she can to make folks happy with their store....
DEAD AS FRIED CHICKEN
I've had a few bad counts but over the years I've had some super good counts. So I won't complain.
Most of the time I carry a second bucket with chilled 24 or 36 hour water. When I get back to the truck I transfer the water between the 2 buckets and divide the minners in the two.
I freeze a few water bottles. Use frozen water bottles in the cooler instead of ice. If I see the minners dying, I'll rinse the bottle off in the lake then put it in the bucket.
I want to be clear about my complaint here, it is about the minnow prices @ $2.25 per doz. The minnows are also very small. I have had no problem keeping them alive, as a matter of fact, the ones we had left over are still alive and we bought them 10 days ago. They are just small and the only other place i can use such tiny minnows is the waterway and i am trying to hold them until i get a chance to feesh over there, since i have so much invested in them. I have been buying minnows at various places for a long time and never have been charged so much. I agree ALL baitshops should sell by the pound, as this is how they purchase them!
