Bet you are rite, will call him in the morning. Got to tear the bearings down on the trailer for the Astro and check everything out. May replace the springs while I am at it too, the extra weight of the batts and the Merc seems to have it whole thing bouncing a little bit more than I like, wish I could run across a good tandom axle trailer somewhere.

We did a study a few years ago on another fishing site. The owner of a seaside marina rented reels out, He had to replace gear parts because the grease was washing off the parts. Lithium grease is a by product of soap, vegatable and animal fat. So yes wash outs do happen. We found 2 brands of grease that were oil based. I haven't a clue where to look for that link.

    Interesting....

Lithium greaseA grease (lubricant) is a mixture of oil and a soap. The soaps are dispersed into and viscosify oils to form stable gels. Lithium grease adheres well to metal, is non-corrosive, may be used under heavy loads, and exhibits good temperature tolerance. It has a drip temperature of 190° to 220°C (350° to 400°F) and it resists moisture, so it is commonly used as lubricant in household products, such as electric garage doors, as well as in automotive applications, such as CV joints. Some formulations also include PTFE and/or other substances, such as molybdenum disulfide.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.
