I have caught many good fish, like DD says, for years in spite of the fair amount of gar. I have not been there since the flood, but understand the gar are a lot worse. I've had some bad days but not many. I will go again and again.
There are 2 good bait shops that I know of. One is kinda behind McDonalds on 49 and the other is on the right just after u turn off 49 onto 149 as u head thru town on the way to the ramp which is on the left just b4 u cross the bridge.. Can't miss it.
Put in, go right, then left at the opening where the deep hole is. Couple miles to the sand beach on the left and before u go under the bridge. Great fishing in that area.

I couldn't believe how shallow in February they'll get. My first tourney with the MCC was in February up there and the winning stringer was caught in less than a foot of water.
