I use spinning reels, because i like my rods with the eyes pointing down.IMO with the eyes down it's easier to see strikes. And they are usually cheaper.

I am with Big C on this. I got spinning reels on mine but they are good ones. Got a good smooth drag on them and have a switch you can flip that lets the spool freespool if ya wanna change the depth and also as Big C said i like my eyes downward, with that being said I do not pull cranks, all I do is slow troll so I cannot say about the pullin part but they work wonderful for trollin/ Mine came from academy sports and they are quantum spinning reels at about `19 bucks each. Have some that have been on my poles for almost 4 years and not a problem with em yet. Also they have a line keeper on them, say if I am fishing real deep say 16 to 20 feet , once i catch a fish on them I can hook the line in the keeper and when I flip the bail it will automatically stop at that depth after reelin in a fish.

I prefer a low profile baitcaster. I turn 'em upside down in the racks so rod eyes are down.
