Back in 88 i was told by a lawyer that ms . Has two laws governing trailer tags . One says you must have, the other says if your gross tongue weight is less than 5000 lbs . And you are not making a living with the trailer you don;t have to have one . In ms . I went from 1990 - 2012 without one . If you go out of state you best have one ! Tennessee will write you in a heartbeat ! Have been told alabama will also . The reason ms . Got all mixed up was over a truck patch farmer faught a ticket back in the 70/80 's and won . It aint worth the trouble , will run one from now on . Those that live on the lake ( same county ) would never be stopped . None of my buddies in water valley have ever bought one . But they only fish enid .

Boat trailers are exempt in Tn. So you shouldn't get a ticket in Tn for no boat trailer tags. If the officer knows the law.

TN doesn't issue boat trailer tags. I guess if ya live in TN, yer getting pulled over again and again.

That information is wrong. They would not even sell me one for my boat trailer here in Bama!
So my questions if the state you come from don't require one how can another state write you a ticket.
If they can why can they not write a ticket for a inspection sticker for an out of state car or truck??

What ever your state requires as far as registration should be honored by neighboring states. The Commissioner enters into reciprocal agreements with the other states to honor what the home state requires. Tn will issue trailer tags but only if the owner requests them.

Got tags on all my trailers. Permanent tags. One time deal. (unless you loose them or they are stolen)
