I been listening to Scott V talking about pushing cranks with the front poles. I get that. Have any of you ever tried pushing jigs real fast with a heavy weight just like he is doin with the cranks????

I am a longliner most of the time but for whatever reason I decided to slow troll pushing minnows one morning last year. Long story short...I ran out of minnows after catching @ 60 fish so I re-rigged & added a 1.5 oz weight above a curly tail jig on each pole and trolled at .8mph, putting another 30 crappie over the sides of the boat before calling it quits. It DOES work.![]()
...and dont eat too much (like I did).![]()
I don't do it, but know some who have. They call it bulldozing or power trolling. Know one guy who only fishes in the summer pushing jigs with 8 oz weights. They look like friggin cannon balls.

I've tried horsehead jigs on my push poles while pulling cranks and caught some on them. In my opinion though, 1.6 or 1.7 mph is a little fast for the jigs.

Thanks guys. I'm gonna try it here pretty quick. Think it'll work on the big 4?
