MDWFP electrofishing last week found a lot of crappie still shallow in coves near the dam and sloughs in the upper lake. Standing timber midlake held fish in depths anglers reported catching them. Sloughs and runouts off the river below Wyatt's Crossing ramp had crappie congregated in drifts of logs and brush in 2 to 4 ft of water, including a good proportion of 15 - 16 inch fish (to 2.5 lb). Most fish were males. Most females were post-spawn, but a few were still flowing eggs even though water temperatures have been above minimum spawning temperatures since early March.
