DonDon...does that SI unit help you catch more fish? I'm asking because I'm really thinking about getting one. Part of me thinks it will help me locate and therefore catch more fish...but then another part of me thinks It'll just be an expensive toy that gives me something to do when the fish aren't biting.

It lets you know where they are. Helps you find structure and like the couple pics I hve on here, old roadbeds and such. Ya still got to get them to bite though

Looks good DD... I know where most of those spots are. Do you have a navionics south chip? You know the premium and platinium chip has 1 foot contours for the Rez? If you haven't seen it, you would be amazed.

Also, you can tell your 2D sonar needs its sensitivity increased big time. Look at the first picture and see how DI and SI are picking up the big group of fish but the 2D shows nothing. Jack that baby up. I would set it to MAX mode (right now it is on clear mode) and put the sensitivity around 4 i believe. Or you could turn it up to 18 or 19 on clear mode. MAX mode will show everything... sometimes too much.

I thought it was all the same thing as far as sensativity. I have that on 10-12. Were you adjust that at?

Well I just looked at the Humminbird manual for the 997. Looks like you don't have MAX mode on the 997... but you do have a sensitivity for the 2D. While you have 2D active on your screen hit menu once and the X-press menu will pop up. Look for Sensitivity and change it there. You have a regular "Sensitivity" and a "SI Sensitivity".

See page 69 and 85 for the 2D sensitivity. You can change in X-press menu or your Sonar tab under regular menu.

On the 898, 998, and 1198 series.... you can change sensitivity for the 2D, DI, SI and also the individual 83 khz beam for 2D. You should be able to change the DI sensitivity on your unit also but it looks like it is doing fine. As long as you can see the fish in all 3 screens your are good to go. If they are showing on DI and SI and not 2D then that sensitivity needs to go up till they do show up. I use the 2D alot to help determine a depth range. It is helpful.
