Whatcha got on yo mind? You thinkin bout mountin sumptin new or jus curious?
I want to be able to see the depth while running, I have tried to get a regular transducer to shoot thru the hull but no luck, I got one of the transducer mounts that sticks out further Speed-Reeder JR-3 - Johnny Ray Llc Mounts and Accessories @ MarineEngine.com and I can not get it in the right position to get a reading with it, my next option would be a shoot thru hull transducer and I see where they will work on aluminum up to .12 thick. it aint sumpin I gotta have but would be nice.
I have my 898 ducer on the bak of the boat and it works good reads speed at any speed. But I think the speed is coming off of my GPS puck and not the ducer.

Once you get on plane, readin depth is not that critical simply because by the time you see it's only a foot deep, you prolly should have one britches leg rolled up and werkin on the other one cause you fixin to hafta get out and push or wade around and look fer ya lower unit. But don't worry, your lower unit should bubble long enuff fer ya to find it.
While what Minner says is true, your ducer should be giving you a depth at WOT
Larry when you get a chance post a couple of pics of your current setup
