side imaging help
I have lost the detail on side imaging. Need to get more detail in the pic, can anyone help me?

With SI screen pulled up, press menu:
Set Sensitivity to 6-9
Contrast - 6-9
Sharpness - off or low
Contour Mode -on showes the bottom of the lake, off shows structure
Range - 4-5 times the depth of the water
Chart Speed - match speed of the boat
These are the notes I took at the Grizzly Jig show. Hope this helps.

Torch - The best and easiest way to set the screen is while on the water. Put you depth finder on side imaging and scan a little distance. Then hit the up, left, right, or down cursor key. This will freeze your screen. Then change your sensitivity, contrast, sharpness, etc till it looks the best. I keep my range as low as possible to get more detail. If I am in 20' of water I usually scan 50' max and sometimes as low as 35-40 to get more detail. Also the KEY is to have the chart speed equal to boat speed. If chart speed is not set equal to boat speed you will NEVER HAVE GOOD IMAGES and you might as well sell the whole thing and go back to 2D sonar. I change my chart speed to match boat speed about 100 times a day while fishing. It has to match or be slightly faster than the boat speed to give you the best images. Also you can try the 455khz and the 800khz to see what gives you the best image if you have a 898, 998, or 1198. I believe the 798 only has 455khz. Good luck..

Ricky from the Kentucky board says he leaves the SI Enhance box up all the time and keeps changing the Sensitivity as the water and pic changes. Its on the Electronics Forum.
