Why don't you get some small gas shocks....they have them at Lowes in different sizes. You can use them and you won't have to change your hinges.

the ones that you can pull open the lid and lock it where it will stay open until you get ready to close it. I have searched but I cant seem to come up with the right words to find what I am looking for, can anybody give me and idea what it is I am lookin for ?

I know what your talkin about. its a coiled spring that stands straight up then to close you just kink the spring. Maybe a Lowes or a Marine store.
