I'm confused a little with all this inside, outside stuff. If you pull out the back why does it matter the length of robs.

I've always ran with my two inside rods at the shorter length. When I started trolling we used planer boards all the time and it was a lot easier to "steer" the fish into the free water directly behind the boat if a fish strikes your long outside line you can get it to the surface and ski it to the clean water behind the boat without worrying about tangling your two shorter inboard lines. Old habits die hard I suppose. I will fish with the same length of line out on all rods when I find a pattern the fish are liking but always stagger as mentioned above when I start my search pattern.
In refernce to planer board for crappie, I have only sen one other boat on my home body of water that is about 10,0000 acres at summer pool use planer boards. So while I get a lot of questions and conversations that start on the water, I also have also had whole bunch of boaters that do not respect my lines when I am in full spread. Double edged sword, but it is a very effective means of boating more fish, especially in pressured waters.

It's all about line separation to keep the tangles down... I can pull 8 and push 2 cranks at a time and as Bigger said get them within 5' of same amount of line out
We have pulled from the side using the front rod holder. All you have to do is set the holder on an angle and fan the robs up and down.
Im just overly cautous i recon. After some of the tangles ive had i just got careful

I know that this is changing the subject some, but do yall seem to get more strikes on cranks when you speed up and slow down? And when you are turning so the inside poles slow down but the outsides lures speed up? And something else I've noticed that when fishing slows if you speed up almost to high that a crappie will jump all over a crank. I don't know if the speed causes a tighter wobble and vibration or if the crappie thinks that the bait is getting away and decides to nail it!Also does everyone tune your cranks to track straight each time you put them out?Just some questions I was querious about!Does everyone Use braid when trolling and what size? I'm kinda like Larry, the only way to learn, is to ask a question??
