    Default 400gph vs 500gph livewell?


    Found dthe problem with my left livewell pump--bearings shot in it. Took them both apart and no wonder--all the junk that was in the bilge area had gotten in the pump (don't know how). So I bought two new Tsunami 500gph pumps. the old one's were mayfair 400gph pumps. I suppose 500 will be better than 400 for the livewells--do any of yall have thoughts on it?

    Bigger is usually better,,,,,,,,,,,if it fits.

    And they fit--the old one's we 90 degree and they fit the brackets--the new one's are straight--and after I cut the inlet to about 1 1/8 inches they fit perfect in the brackets--so I am good to go. I coulda got 800gph but those were for sure too big (body wise) I think this will work perfect--I suppose 500 (bigger than my old ones--and bigger is better (thanks Maj.) will be sufficient

    Bigger is better when talking bilge, but not livewell, except when dulling for the first time. There's only so much water the dish needs. After that, your just drawing more amps than necessary. 500 is standard in pretty much all boats these days. Think u sine good.

    I prefer mayfair cartridge pumps, but never had a problem with tsunamis.

    you wrap those bilge pumps with screen wire and your clogging problems are over.

    These draw water from outside the boat and recirc from the livewells. I did buy new screens for the livewells and the intakes (on the boat pad) so I think i'll be good. One thing was my bilge area was just covered in greasy grime (20yrs worth I suppose) guess I'll be set up good now.
