    Default Oxbow Crappie Sequel.....

Friday I was blessed to be able to have my Dad and both brothers in the boat with me to chase down those big speckled crappie. I believe it has been 10 years since we have all been able to fish together. That in itself was worth it whether we caught any fish or not. It was truly a blessing.

We got to the lake and tried the honey hole from last time with no luck. We hit a few other spots and it was looking like a slim pickins day. At noon we had 6 fish in the box. We happened across this one dock and caught 4-5 in a row and they were big healthy crappie. We decided to anchor and ended up with a total of 23 crappie and 2 huge bull bream for the day. We had some toads I tell ya. We didn't catch 65 this time but the 23 we had were big. I would say most were 2 lbs and three were probably 2.5 lbs. The big fish were 15 to 15.5 inches and thick. We were fishing Bobby Garland baby shad jigs on a single pole. I also did a little dock shooting which was fun... Here are some pics...

You know you got some good bream when they are the size of your small crappie. Congratulations.

Great day with your family, and great mess of fish. Love all the old stories that come up on a trip like that!! Miss my Dad for sure. He taught me so much about the outdoors and that we need to take care of it so our children can enjoy what God gave us!! That lake was full of black crappie and really nice gills! Awesome!!!
