Major, before you do something crazy, look at the ladder on my boat. It attachs to the motor support with 2 nuts. You can see it at www.basscat.com. Well worth the money.
Won't fit my garage either, but it sho is a nice boat!
I don't think I'd want the liability of building one for somebody else. If it were to fail and cause somebody to drown, the builder could be held liable. These ambulance chasin, lawsuit happy lawyers are sitting at the emergency rooms and the morgues waitin on grieving widows to help comfort them.
My boat dealer wouldn't even install my extra seat pedestals on account of them not being in the center if the boat and not installed by the factory.
Have you actually tried to get in your boat from the water using an E-ladder? I had one mounted to my jackplate on my Nitro and I couldn't get in. The ladder is too short and I didn't have a handle in the back to help pull myself up plus you can only use one leg, How do they expect you to take two steps with one foot? Think about it. I managed to get in by stepping on the cavatation plate and grabbing the transom but it was very difficult and I tested it under perfect summer conditions. I would have drowned if it happened in January. Recently I added a swim platform to my transom that has two wide steps and two grab handles. It's much easier to use but not near as sexy. Just something for everyone to think about when looking at ladders.

I use it when I go for a dip and haven't had a problem.
