I think the tool is less than $10 online. I just had hoped to do it without driving 40 miles to get the durn tool. I live in the middle of nowhere.

I do too . I try to get my stuff done when i go in to work . When you cut to replace you can cut it wit ha skill saw . Turn your blade around backwards . If you can get the bottom unhooked you want need the tool .

    but, but, but.........

Wonder if I could cheat somehow and cut off the top edge and cover the bottom piece with the new piece and caulk it at the top edge and nail it on the bottom to hold it up. I don't want to try to take down the entire side by myself. Then you might have to add me to ES's team

You won't need the tool for the vinyl. A sixteen penny nail bent at a ninety degree about an inch down from the end will do. Might have to use pliers to hold the nail while pulling (to disconnect the bottom lip from the starter strip) The aluminum might be a whole nuther deal. I've never messed with it.

I just knew someone would have a trick!!! Thanks so much!

The thing that stinks is the vinyl is the lesser of the evils. I'll have to get the box down and take out the replacement piece and see if I can figure a way to "rig" it without removing the aluminum.
