MY roof will be a year old next week. Last Aug I was in Canada working and I was on phone w/ my daughter. I heard a boom and phone went dead...next call was from wife saying house on fire! Just burned where it hit...didnt burn down. Lighting hit it when I was on phone w/ here and blew a 7' hole in my roof, killed appliances, knocked bricks off front of house, and worst of all cracked main beam. Had a crew that came in fixed roof and put on 67 squares in a week....w a wheel barrow.

Replaced my roof 3 years ago. Did it myself with my 2 sons and a couple if buddies. Parked a dump truck partially in my garage. Used wheel barrows for the tear off. Tore off in a day, put down 33 square the next day. Oldest son brought his tractor with a loader to lift the shingles on the roof. Turned out great but I'll never do it again!!!!

Are the shingles high up there? They've went up around here bout $30 a square since the tornado blew the shingle factory away in Tuscaloosa. I jus had mine done and had to pay $69 a square jus fee the shingles. They up to $80 now.

Dunno what they cost now. The mister paid for 'em yesterday and didn't whine so I guess it was the price he quoted us 6 mo. ago. I think it was $65 for what we picked. He did say they went up a LOT since then.

Had mine done last week. When the guy told me he could do a metal roof for basicly the same as shingles it was a simple decision for me. A lot of the price when they tear off now is hauling that stuff to the hazardous waste landfill
