Briggs has always been crap. Their only plus was that they were cheap and easy to work on. Kawasaki or Honda is the only way to go. Take out a loan and get a commercial zero turn that will last you the next 20 years. Exmark is prolly the best deal for the money. Gonna cost ya up front, but it's lots cheaper than getting a new $2500 mower every 5 years.

I've got a 16 year old 19 horse briggs that still purrs like a kitten. But the craftsman has seen better days. The deck is about ready to fall off and there's enough slack in the steering that I probably look like a 7 year old playing a pole position arcade game just trying to keep it strait.

I have an old Crafrsman with a Briggs 13 horse single lung that's 14 years old and still runs. It cost me $750 new. That's about $21.00 yearly. That's hard to beat. I just bought another Craftsman for that reason. I cut 1/2 acre once a week on the average. Any machine will give you good service if it's serviced and taken care of. Sears warranty and service is hard to beat. Try going to Lowes for warranty claims and see what you get.

John Deere Commercial grade....Kawasaki engine, 60 inch cut zero turn. Don't know what the new number is, mine is a 757 Z-Trac ..........been running great , no problems for 7 years now. My old one John Deere , Kawasaki engine 48 in cut is 25 years old.....still looks and runs great, never a problem. These mowers mow somewhere between 3 and 4 acres every week. Nothing runs like a Deere. You get what you pay for.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

I've got a Ferris Industries ZTR IZ 1500 48" cut with a 21 hp Kawa vtwin. It will cost you 2x's as much but you'll get a helva good mower, they have different sizes if you need the 60" cut. I bought mine in 07 or 08, I do the maintanence on it myself, no problems at all, only thing that broke was the engine meter and they gave me a new one to plug in when the original one stopped working. ZTR's will reduce your mowing time and you'll never have to buy another mower, as this is truly a commercial grade mower, built to be used 8 hrs/day all week long with minimal down time.
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.
