Thread: OK, here's what happened

Post script: No real damage. The safety chains did their job and are the proper length. The hitch was ground off a bit from sliding on the concrete and one safety cable had some plastic coating worn off. My tongue jack handle was scuffed slightly and the brake safety cable had an S end that got lost somehow. On the truck side, no damage at all. The tongue slid under and the safety cables held the boat off the truck, so not a scratch there.

Only real issue was the on the ball nut which was ground away so I'll need to replace that, but will probably have to cut it off to replace since it's so boogered.

Some would say that I am really lucky to have escaped this mishap with only one scraped nut. I tend to agree.
