    Default Question about line.....

In clear water lakes, would it be wise to use the hi-vis line or would I need to go with something else while spider rigging?
    Thanks

Great question! It really depends on the type of water you are fishing. I use to run braid line on my spider rigging rods. Worked great until I fished a lake with clear water. My buddy was sitting next to me fishing with clear mono. We were using the same jigs, knots, depth, everything except line. He was catching 10 to every one of mine. I tied about 20 feet of clear mono leader to each of my rods and started catching fish also. I'm convinced that in stained water, it doesn't really matter. In clear water I feel the fish can definitely see braid line. Not sure about other hi vis lines though.

:D :D Put it on him, til he added the leader. Pretty obvious wasn't it Speck?

I had a day, on the same lake, but with stained (a little, not much) water that I caught a number of fish on the clear and not on the hi-vis. I had six poles out, three with each-clear and hi-vis. Looking back on it now, I'm not so convinced that it was the color difference, maybe just coincidence. I'm not really sure. I was definitely catching more on the clear. Since then, I've changed all my line to clear, but still catch more fish on a particular pole(s) more than the others, even if they have the same jigs on them. Who knows for sure, but I would really look at the clear line if I was fishing a super clear lake.

Duck I tie my own C&c Riggs. I use high vis for line but tie my Riggs with fluorocarbon main and droppers. Not convinced floro is better than clear mono just some line I had at the time and it's all I use it for.

I feel like it would make a difference in clear water. I really don't know though cause I never fish clear water. LOL I would go with clear line when spider rigging though.

Not only will the line color matter but size matters as well, no matter what they tell you.. Clear water I like 6 lb leaders and they make a difference.. Stained and muddy water fish with big colored line and see no difference.
