Don't worry Double, if you open her up and it doesn't clear, I figure if the first blade doesn't shave that trim tab enough, the second one will and the third will just polish it shiney.

I just called yamaha. They said that the prop did not have to clear the trim tab by much at all. That as long as it cleared it, then it was fine. He said that when the prop is in use, it is pushed toward the boat which would make it further away from the trim tab. Also, when in reverse it is not pulling it very hard so it would be fine.
I still might look into replacing the trim tab with one that is smaller to get more clearance. It still gives off a certain pucker factor.
If I read correctly, you can bring a prop to a prop shop and they can adjust it down or up a pitch if needed.. So if the 20 is too much then I could dial it down to a 19 if need be... Yamaha is also sending me a free tacometer to put on my boat since I don't have one so I can make sure I don't get over 6000 RPM.

Haha.. Yeah... I just did some searching online and found where some have trimmed there trim tab themselves just to get more clearance. I know if it does touch the trim tab will be gone. That darn SS prop is not going anywhere.

Take it to Art Payne and let him check it out. It could be off pitch. It might be a c- rather than a c sharp. Seriouly.
You should have a noticeable hole shot difference and you prolly won't lose anything on the top end cause the stainless ain't gonna flex. With this being said, I don't remember what motor you got, but I run a 21 on my 115.
I hate to call Art since I didn't get the prop from him. When I talked to art in the past he said that he would buy the same pitch prop I had on the boat which was a 21.
Minner - That is what I was shooting for... I got plenty of hole shot and speed when in my boat alone. When I got two people in there and full of gas the hole shot is slow but it will still get on plan and go good. I have to keep in mind the aluminum 21 prop does flex and it was bend really bad. So a non-bent prop and prop that won't flex should give me that little bit more emmmfffff by itself. Plus I stepped down to 20 which would give more power. I just thought the 18 would be too low. I guess we will see how it does. My motor is a yamaha F90. Below is the performance data for a boat close to mines size with the aluminum 21 prop on it.

Talk with one or more prop shops that size em every day. It's part knowledge, part luck and part voodoo getting it right the first time.
