Default New SS Prop... Got questions....

Well I finally broke down and bought a new SS prop for my motor. The aluminum prop I had was bent bad and I needed to either fix it or get a new one. So I opted for the new SS prop. The new prop fits fine but it is real real real close to the little rutter thing above the prop (wish I new what the name of that was). Do you think this is too close? Is yalls prop that close to it? There might be a couple millimeters there to spare...

    Few specs just FYI:
    Old prop 12 5/8 x 21 K aluminum yamaha prop
    New Prop 13 1/4 x 20 SS yamaha prop

    The old prop

    The new prop

The new prop installed (see how close it is to touching?)

I think you got too big a prop ( dia) My 115 Yamaha that I used to have the prop was a 12.25 X 21 The prop on my new Yamaha 90 is a 12.25 X 19

I tried to tell you that you needed a 19P for that motor. I can't see your pictures but you need to return and swap it for a 19P.

I don't understand why you went down in pitch either. Several boat techs have told me when replacing aluminum props with SS to stay with the same size and pitch and that is what I have always done through the years.

Re reading your post I have come to the conclusion that your old prop was the wrong size and your new one sure is.

Well I looked at alot of props and called alot of prop shops and they all said to go with the same pitch that I had or real close to it. Yamaha makes a 18 and a 20 pitch SS prop. I didn't want to jump from 21 all the way to 18 so I compromised with the 20 pitch. Plus I found a steal of a deal on it. Also when I looked up the Solas 19 pitch prop like the one you got they said it was the same as the 20 pitch yamaha that I bought. So that made my decision a little easier. See info below.

    3 13 1/4 19 L 3442-133-19 SOLAS 3 13 1/4 20 L MAR-GYT3B-L4-20 Yamaha

SBC - They only make the 12 5/8 in aluminum. Check out this sheet below. It shows the props that yamaha makes and the diameters.

My bad DoubleG......I was thinking of my old Merc when I said 12.25 dia. Both of my Yamahas ran 13 inch props. The SOLAS that I have on the new 90 is 13 in. dia X19 pitch It works great, gets out of the hole quick. Thats 13 in. even.
