Default help with depth finder please.............

i have a humminbird 363 combo gps and sonar with a trolling motor mounted transducer. it works fine in water over 7 ft., but when i get in water below 5 ft. or so, it does not read the depth correctly.........it keeps flashing different numbers very quickly....10, 1.8, 7.9, 8.0, .6 etc., but works ok when i get in deeper water. i have tried all adjustments to no avail..........even called the co., and they said change to saltwater mode, surface clutter adj., nothing worked. seems like it works ok sometimes on different lake............does the bottom of a lake have something to do with it, like a soft or hard bottom, grass, etc. has anyone ever had this problem? thanks!

You can download the update to an SD card if your unit had a slot or you can buy the USB cable and download that way.

Don't think the 363 has a card slot to do updates....might be wrong. Have you tried running the sensitivity down when in shallow water? And I mean way down.

no, wb it does not have a slot.............did try sensitivity setting. just called HB, and they said try taking auto depth range off of auto and setting it to about 20 ft., or close to the depth water you are in............will try that next time. it's vey aggravating, lol.

duck if you have not updated it you may want to see about the USB cable and still do an update even if the auto depth does work for you.

Also, other sonars can mess with each other and shallow water makes it worst. Cut any other sonars off and adjust the sensitivity down like WB said and see if
    that fixes it.
