No, a real question and it's really about social security.
In the back of my mind, I thought there was a one time death benefit that the SSA pays out in the neighborhood of $650 to everyone eligible for benefits. Was doing a little online research on SSA.gov and can't seem to find it although I found where they will pay out a $255 benefit to qualified dependants. Am I disremembering or am I not searching for the right term?

I think you're right.
Yep that 255 will just cover the gas now a days.

All I'm seeing is the $255.

Yeah, that's what I found. But it is only payable to a qualified dependant, say a surving spouse or child under 18. Looks like the SSA is off the hook.

Only ONE(1) person gets the 255 as in my dad died my mom got 255...we buried him for $100 ..partied on the rest.
Running joke of my Dad's was with one of his best buds, a funeral director. He always liked to tell the story that "Bill" always said that when my Dad died, they were going to drag his carcase out to the pasture and let the coyotes take care of him and we'd use the burial insurance to have a 1st class fish fry. LOL.
