Default How To Disconnect Auto Oilier

Can anyone tell me how to unhook the auto oilier on a 2002 40 hp Mercury 2 stroke motor? I haven't had any trouble with it, but it's getting old, and I would feel better about it just mixing it and playing it safe.
I've gone to The Marine Doctor site, but he won't tell you, he just say's carry extra oil....

Are you sure you want to unhook that ???? You are at that age where you forget to do things like put oil in the gas !!!

Have you thought about asking your local dealer? I ask mine questions all the time then go home and do the work myself. Also....You might post this over on the main board in the boat mechanics forum ( click here http://www.crappie.com/crappie/mecha...tors-trailers/ )am sure someone over there will give you the answer. And....Slabo does have a good point also, Lol.

If it ain't broke don't dicker with it. How many have you heard of in the last year that has quit werkin? Mines 10 years old and I ain't unhookin it. Plus, ifn you got an enclosed gas tank how you gonna keep the ratio right?

Pump went out on my 50 Johnson. A mech unhooked mine a couple years ago. From start to finish maybe 5 minutes. Didnt charge a dime. Probably best to let someobdy that's done it before take care of it. My motor is a '97 model.

There is a big difference between a Johnson VRO and a Merc oiler. My past 2 boats had Evinrudes and I unhooked both the oil injection systems on them. I would leave it alone Cowboy.

I had a buddy burn up a new 150 Merc when the oiler went out on him....it was his 3rd trip out in the boat.....anything can happen to any of them.
