Put your weight around 30 inches above your crankbait. I just use egg sinkers and loop the line through them 4 times leaving a tag end of line 30 inches and then tie on a swivel.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

I use 3oz weights when I push cranks. I use a bank sinker and I have it tied onto a 1 ft leader with a swivel on the end. On my main line I have a loop knot tied 3 ft up the line from my snap where the crankbait goes. I hook the weight to the loop knot. I troll at 1.3 to 1.7 mph and it works well. The reason I use the weight on a short leader and hooked to a loop knot is so I can take the weight off when I put my poles up.
