Unless you trying to catch a fancy 3 lb. slab.....sometimes the slightest difference in a bait makes a lot of difference. Just look at the difference red hooks sometimes makes.

DG00 i used markers similar to that. the only difference i did not have it where two colors faded together like the air brush can do. it was just hard lines of color. but i did catch fish on them and that was satisfying enough for me.
The vinyl jig and lure paints they sell at BPS will work to just brush on. You can thin them and spray with an airbrush but you need to use a respirator. Just brushing it you need to open a window and turn on a fan. You'll need some of their thinner to clean the brush.
