    Default Okuma Question

Has anybody figured out a good way to place something on the spool of the Okuma 15DX reels so you don't have to use up so much line? I am sure maybe DD tried duck tape.... Maybe some type of rubber strip or something. Since I am using braid I hate to use over 300 yards on each reel. If it is not filled to the top the line counter is way off.... Any ideas? Guess I could fill it half way with some cheap mono then do the last 100 yards in braid...

Cheap Mono. The Walmarts sells some cheap stuff you can use. Don't use high test stuff, just use 10#. The larger stuff will have so much of a gap that the braid can and will dig down into the Mono and you'll have to peel it off by hand.

Use junk line as a filler then the good stuff on top of it. Be careful not to overfill those reels.

Good deal.. I think I got two rolls of some 12 lb test at home that is old. They are the big roles of like 1000 yards. I will give that a try.

    Thanks,

That will work, but tie as small of a knot as you can get away with or the braid in the wraps above the knot will grab and stick and you'll have to pay it out by hand. No biggie, but a pain if you're setting out multiple lines.

If you ever get the line behind the spool, and you will, don't try to horse it out, you will ruin the spool, how do I know? I can show you how to take apart and reassemble the reel. There is a small gear that might give you problems if you don't know about it.

Thanks for the info.... I will look out for that. I had them half spooled last week and my count was way off. Going to take the braid off, put on the mono, then back on the braid. That should get me going. Got some rods headed my way too! PST are in the mail...

Major do you use braid or mono on your line counters? I use braid and don't think I have ever had the problem with the line getting behind the spool.

Using 10lb mono now, going to transition over to braid in the near future.
