Default Nightmare on Pickwick: My story.

Tuesday. I had plans to work Tuesday to work until bout 1:00 or 2:00 and then start the pre-feshin for the bigun. Well all goes well with work, I left the house around 4:47am and drove to Russellville, Al then onto Sheffield, AL to drop my boat off at a buddies shop and then onto Cypress Inn, TN and then back to Muscle shoals for lunch and my final appointment for the day. Everything went well til I got back to Muscle Shoals fer lunch. As I was ridin down the road lookin fer that special buffay or BBQ joint, I start to hear sirens and some dood on a loud speaker. At first I thought the sirens were a meat wagon or the local PO PO lookin fer somebody, then I realized it was the torenayder sirens. Well the dood on the loud speaker was another story. I kept thinkin it was comin thru my radio in my truck, so I turned it down and could still hear it. Now at this point, I'm thinkin the pimped out 1978 Cutlass Supreme that was next to me at the red light had lost his mind and was bumping the Sean Hannity show on his subs. I was sure this was what it was til he drove off and I could still hear it. At this point I was bout to go crazy tryin to figure this one out. Hense, this is when I should have drove home and fergot the tourney. I finally rolled down my window to discover that Muscle Shoals is fancy. Not only do they have sirens to warn ya what the weather is doin, they got a feller that is on this loud speaker tellin you what these sirens means. Whew, ok, I'm relieved to know who was talkin to me. Then I spot it, Rick's BBQ. Yup, it's good. Well adder seein my last job site, it was off to get the boat. Bout the time I get the boat out of the nice dry shop, the rains set in and I mean it really rained. I went to the local minner store and got my minners and was talkin to one of the locals. I had a plan, but he was so convincing that I had to go try one of his spots. This is another time I should have just loaded up and came home. No fesh and a wasted hour. So by this time, the wind had calmed down to about 19 mph and I decided to get back on my plan. So I run bout 8 miles down the river and go into a slough, that I thought should be holding fesh. Wrong, well not totally wrong. I did catch bout 70lbs of gar, a 5lb cat and a drum. So by this time it was gettin dark and Maachuu had started callin, so I left and went to Rose Trail to check out our accomadations fer the week. Purty good joint to stay at ifn you gonna fesh the Bear Creek area. So I meet up with my brother and a feller from Kentucky and we decide to meet Maachuu at Iuka, MS fer some messican. Met up with ol Maachuu and he was a big help. We pulled out the map and he showed us where we were stayin on the map, where the messican joint was vs the river and where a feller told him about two fellers from Tenneessee ketching a few crappie 3 years ago. Another clue we should have went home. And then our luck changed. We all ordered our food, cept fer Maachuu. He would not let me buy his supper. (This is the feller you wanna carry out to eat WB). After ordering my usual Steak & Eggs, they bring um out. They eggs on a separate plate. Well the eggs with the red sauce on em caught the eye of this lady sitting at the table next to us. She was one of them fancy type from Kansas, ya know, all prim & proper and she talked funny too. Well she axed, what is that on your plate sir? And without thinkin about the concequences, I tolt her "Rooster Eggs". She was kinda startled, but calm about it, as all she could say was " OKaaaaay. Hmmmmm" Well everybody at our table and their table, cept fer her, knew that roosters dont lay no eggs. It got kinda quiet and then the silence broke. My brother almost spit his nachoos across the room and the feller that was with the lady busted out laughin and agreed I was his buddy and that I had gotten her good. Now Ol' Maachuu was just sittin there kinda wonderin who was in this messican joint that mite possibly know him and he started to slump down in his chair. Course the lady finally was tolt that roosters dont lay no eggs and that she was the butt of the joke. She aint happy by this time. well we all eat and decide it's time to head home. We wish the tourin people a good trip and ya know I fergot to apoligize to the lady and she is prolly still mad, Oh well. So we tell Maachuu, we will call him if we need any more pertinant info and we head off to our humble abode fer the night.

    Day 2 Wednesday:

Day 2 started out purty good. We fished the Indian Creek area. Done a lot of ridin and lookin and found a stump field with a couple of stake beds. Caught a couple of good fesh and didn't have any boats around us. They were all on the other side of the creek. The only problem with this area was it was infested with the white bass. Prolly caught 59 or so. But there were good crappie mixed in with em.
Left this area and went to the Second Creek area. No luck here. Then went out on the river and feshed a couple of tops with no luck. Had to be off the water at 12:00. So after the first day of pre feshin we felt ok thinking we had fount at least one spot. Wednesday night went to the registration banquet and mopped up on the free stuff and the buffay.

    Thursday, Day 3:

Started out this practice day in Dry Creek. Had told a buddy of mine on the semi-pro side we were goin here and he bout choked. He said he would not ask me not to go there. So I asked him where he didn't want me to fesh and he told me. I promised him I wouldn't and I didn't. Went to a different area and fount some more fesh. Caught 2 good uns here really quick and then we left.
Then we headed to a place on yellow creek where I had caught some last year. Sure enuff we caught one there and left.
Feelin purty good by this time, we took out and went to Bear Creek and put in to fesh the last couple of hrs of practice. Went to another spot where 3 limits were caught last year. Got there and run into Stevem. He said the fesh were not there so he left. Before he got out of site my brother had caught 2 decent fesh and we were bout to leave when I caught one over 1.5lbs. We turned em loose and left grinnin ear to ear. We were feelin very good bout our chances. Left and headed to the Ranger BBQ fer some more free food.

Not as much fun reading these things when you know how the story ends. Pffft.

A lot like the old Wannabe... except with fewer bad words. And Karate chop action. But, yes, still purtier than you.

It gets better. As bad as I hate to say it, there are several misfortunes to be heard.
