Heard the Snapper are everyone in the gulf now and you can't get down to get the gags and such without a Snapper getting the bait first

I wonder why they have a 2 fish limit on red snapper.

so 9 people go fishing 18 fish limit, one or two dont catch any fish and who ever catches the most who ever don't catch just has to sit and watch and say well I paid my money to watch some one else catch man that would be hard to take, I bet it cost a bunch to go fishing in the big water. do not think I would like that, I know I would be the one not catching. hence not eating the snapper.

Thats how it works. We keep ours on a stringer and it just so happened that I caught 3 and Jerry caught 1 by the time we left. If we had caught more than our limit of 4 the rest would have went into the common pot, at least that was what I was told.

Thats what I have been hearing too and it sure seemed that way Friday, only 1 grouper caught. When you dropped you bait you would get bite almost as soon as you got to the right depth. Normally the bigger snapper stay higher in the water column and the small one stay on the bottom but not Friday, the big ones were on the bottom also.

Ala has a great reef program which Fla and MS don't have and when they do a study on the snapper they include all the gulf states and while Ala has an over load the other states don't so the 2 fish limit. At least that is what I heard. It has hurt all the charter boats because no one really wants to pay the money for just 2 fish. But it sure has increased the size caught.
