Ross Barnett this weekend
I headed up Sunday morning to do a little recon on how far the big one's had made it up the lake. Put in at tommy's and as soon as I got out of the markers to the channel, I slowed down and turned on the 997. Talk about Shad, man, they were everwhere up ABOVE 43. I went ahead and put out the poles and trolled around for a couple hours there to give it a good chance. I picked up 3 or 4 there that were bearly keepers and a few dinks (under 10 inches) From there, I went to the bridge itself and same thing, lots of dinks in and around the pilings. Headed South from there to the welfare hole bout 9:30 ( IF G3 ok's it, I have a story for ya but he'll have to give me the OK on that, LOL think BTM,) Anyway, headed over the the boat channel to safe harbor, then across the hump and into the welfare hole to ride the ridge. Picked up a few just bearly keepers along it and talked to a guy that had a 2 pounder to the boat and it got off. Next was off to the hole on the South west end, next to the channel. I was on the phone with Maj about that time and picked up a couple there talking to him. Lots of very light bites and a couple times the pole would slam under the water and then nothing would be there. Think they were short striking and not getting the hook in their mouths. after I checked it out. I went to the channel and followed the edge back to the bridge to see if there was a difference in morning and afternoon bite. Not much really but did pick up a nice pound n a halfer north of the bridge in the ledge that's in the center of the channel. Ended up with a dozen which have been cleaned and boiled in Crab boil. Also got peppers already sauteed so we can make Crappie cakes Tuesday. YUMMMM. All in all, they haven't made it to 43 YET, the big one's anyways. Dinks are there but not real thick. If we can get nights like we've been having and then daytime only into the low 70's it'll turn on in a big way. Heck, I bet even wannabe could drive down and pick up 10-15 EASY in a couple or 3 weeks when it starts. How will you know when it starts. Look for about 50 boats tied up to the bridge, then another 50 boats all over the channel north and south of 43. Bait O the Day. Donnie's Crappie logic Jigs in Orange, green and char. Had a double on 1 time and it was on his jigs that it came from
