Since I am upgrading to a 24 volt terrova.. I have to build a spot to put the third battery in the back of my G3 1860. It had to be easily removable so I could get to the bilge or aerator pump if I needed to replace or repair them... So I bought some aluminum angle from lowes and cut it into a few pieces. I used SS rivets to hold down the piece near the gas tank and SS bolts in the other places. It is angled toward the front of the boat so that the majority of the weight is resting on the front bar (thanks Wannabe). However, the thick aluminum should have no problem holding up the battery.
Next I am cutting a piece of 1/2 inch treated plywood to fit snug in the tray. Then mounting a plastic battery holder to the wood with tie down straps to hold the battery securely. I will probably zap a couple self tapping screws into the front bar to make sure the battery, wood, and plastic tray won't bounce around.
