    Default Where to Fish?

Never really tried catching crappie in the summer months but you guys are driving me crazy with the pictures you've been posting. We've got a lake in Middle Georgia that has a mixture of white and black crappie and I was wondering what kind of water you might typically target to try and catch fish this time of year. The lake is relatively shallow (lots of 12-16 foot water) with a LOT of trash in it along with a VERY defined channel that typically runs10-15 feet deeper than the surrounding water. Any thoughts on where they might be hiding?

Crank bait fishing is generally gonna target White crappie, and they should be found along the channels or other deep drops in the lake. They will be suspended around the thermocline near these drops.

I ain't no expert here, but I would find your shad along that defined channel and start pulling cranks

How likely are they to suspend out over the middle of the channel? If you get close to that edge and fish over 8-10 feet deep you will stay hung up all day....we tolerate it when fishing jigs because they are pretty cheap but crankbaits is another story.....the edge of the channel in most places actually "humps" up and will got from 25 foot to less than 10 sometimes and then drop back to 15 -18 foot on the flats...

They will be very likely to suspend directly over the channel and also on the flats side of the hump.

AU, you might experiment with 200s and short line 'em...say 50' until you get comfortable with the area. You can always come back with more line or more lip (300s). Who knows, on a lake that shallow, there's liable not to be much of a thermocline if any at all....especially if it's wind blown or subject to current. If that's the case, the fish will be where the bait is and ignore the depth.

Then again, if it's vegetation laden or prone to free floating vegetation, spider rigging is likely to be more productive.

AUTiger, I would head over to the Arkansas board and ask Creekslick or Rockmike. I've heard they're pretty good:p:p:p:D
