I guess I am a hard nose as you call it. If everyone else was finding that many, he must have been goofing off. No reward for laziness in my world.

Just wanted to share a little something with you guys and get your thoughts. I recently took my son on a little trip with a bunch of other boys. We all went on an organized arrow head hunt. Lots of fun and great time was had by all. My son and I found about 40 or 50 arrow heads in 2 or 3 hours and I guess that was about the average.
Now here now here is the part I been thinking about.
At the end of the hunt there was one little fellow that found not one single arrow head. Looked pitiful standing there with his empty ziplock bag. The organizer a really nice guys says "ok, everyone little Johnny has no arrowheads so I would like all of you to file by and give him one of your best, so he has some" Now there are about 50 people on the trip and they all file by and drop one and some even 2 or 3 in Johnny's Bag. So now Johnny has just as many as everybody else and all is good.
Is it just me being a hard nosed, what ever you want to call it, or is this just teaching the little fellow a really bad trait? If my son had played around and not found any arrow heads I really think I would have refused to let him take the charity and instead took that opportunity to teach another lesson.
What you think? Are they too young at 6 to 9 years old to learn about redistribution of wealth and the satisfaction of hard work? I understand there are good lessons about generosity and such but when directed by a leader is it really giving or generosity?
Ready to hear your thoughts.

Well it looks to me like he had equal opportunity and did not take advantage of it. The gesture....was a nice gesture no doubt about it....but it may send the wrong signal to the boy. Its just too hard to call.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

Yep, I gotta wonder why everyone found a bunch and little Johnny none. Was the area he was searching null and void of the arrowheads or did it have some to and if so was little Johnny sitting on his duff waiting for the redistribution to come his way.
Thats just like giving participation medals out at the end of the baseball season. They all look the same as the champs, but thay aint done nuthin to deserve em. They gotta win to get em from me. So I'm with ya. Tell WB, I mean, Little Johnny, to get off his can and get to work. Teach him a lesson. As a matter of fact, they ought to have picked up some rip-rap and threw it at him and ran em off fer being so lazy. Well maybe not quiet that bad but you get the point.
50 ppl 40 injun rock average.......Dern yall must have been in a honey hole, thats 2000 heads!!! Dont be advertisin that, the gubment will declare that some kinda preserve and yall wont be able to go back!!
Stick yo jig in there!
Reminds me of a few years back, my twins were playing basketball in a church league. They didn't keep score because they didn't want the losers to get their feelings hurt! Wrong I tell ya, just wrong! We didn't go back.

Well now I feel better. I just believe we need to prepare our kids for disappointment in life. I really think disappoint is motivation for future performance. And the "well they are just kids" does not work with me. Best time to learn is when they are young.
