Something with a "v" hull for the big waters.

If I were going to buy a boat to troll only. I'm with Maj, get a big V-hull boat. Preferably fiberglass, but the yankee boats are good as well...Lund, Crestliner, etc.

I agree. Deep-V all the way.

    Chodie,

What you want for what you do is a big glass bassboat, minimum of 19' with a max rated outboard. Single console and at least a variable speed TM like a Maxxum or posibly a V2 or Terrova.

Other than that, with your grandkids along, a boat like Creekslicks would be hard to beat too and would handle the rough water just as well if not better than the bassboat above and probably would do it more economically, but in the end will be more expensive. I think Creek's is a Crestliner Fishhawk 1750. He's got a nice front deck for dual spider rigging, no rear deck with 4 seats that gives a nice low spot to pull cranks and long line from, 2 livewells front and back and a built in cooler. Plus, his has a kicker and the transom would be easy to add one to if you went that direction. The drawback is that they are scarce in these parts and unless you get lucky, you're going to have to be willing to travel a good distance to get it which will drive the cost and complication way up.

Not sure what you drive, but the bassboat really needs a full size truck. The V aluminums normally can be pulled with mid size and in some cases compacts depending on the weight. And before somebody jumps on here and tells me they pull an 8000 pound cruiser with tripple axles with a Datsun B210 - yeah, it ain't the pulling, it's the stopping.

On the big fiberglass bass boats.......a truck with a V-8 is nice to have on some of these boat ramps.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.
