Try turning down the sensitivity and see if that clears it up. Might be getting such a good signal return in that depth that the processor is overloaded trying to interpret it.

my depth finder/gps, a humminbird 363, would not read depth in water less than 5 ft. yesterday. i have a trolling motor transducer. what's funny is i lifted the trolling motor up as far as it will go, still nothing. i dropped the trolling motor back down and pulled on the rope, bringing it up 6 inches or so, and it read ok. anyone ever experince this problem? we tried changing angles on the trans., still did not work. works fine in water over 6 ft. deep.

The only help I can offer is for you NOT to ask DD or take any if his advice on ducers unless it's on top of your TM pointed up. Then he'll know what to do.
If what WB said doesn't work, you may have a short in the wire. Ditto what minner said.:D

Set the depth off set to + 1.5 and that should take care of it.
stay out of water shallower than 6 ft.
Give em' what they want!
Or you could just use the DD method. Put a cinder block under your trolling motor bracket. That way, you'd be good to go in water as shallow 3 ft. I got nothing for ya on the stuff less than 3, unless DD thinks you could use 2 cinder blocks. I'm sure he'll be along to render a professional opinion though.

Press Menu twice, and use the 4 way cursor key to move over to the Setup tab. Now down to the User Mode, then Right to select advanced.
Now Scroll up or down to select the Depth Offset, (it should not be visible) and use the right and left to set your offset. You use a negative number to adjust to the depth your transducer is below the waterline.
By the way, this is also covered on page 80 of your user manual.
