I put about 4 inches of masking tape about 10 inches down from the tip of my rods. Then I spray a coat of auto primer let dry, then follow by a coat of fluorescent orange "hunter orange." I do this on all of my crappie and catfish rods. I think it helps me when I'm reaching in the cooler, to see strikes out of the corner of my eye. Do this and you will earn a few man points back even though you'll always know its pink underneath.
