MidSouth Man....
Other fisherman are not as fortunate as you to have the money, and time away from there job as you. I'm a poor man, and can't, and wouldn't. I don't understand people spending that amount of money to just fish tournaments every week, it's crazy to me.
These tournaments depend on people just like you to support them, or they would go broke. I'm not putting you down for it, I just don't understand going back week after week spending that amount money, and not winning any money, being happy watching the same old guys walking off with your money in there pocket.
I guess what it really comes down to, If you travel to these tournaments every week, you have to have money, to be competitive, and please forgive me here, you stated you never win nothing, so your just tournament food [money]for the big boys and they [tournament director's] depend on guys just like you.
They can talk all they want about ''having the fisherman at heart'', BS, having the fisherman's money at heart is what it's all about.
You know the saying ''follow the money'' if you want to find the root of the problem, In this case this is were the biggest fish of all is.....
The Tournament Fisherman
I'm sorry if this offends, but I believe it's the truth, nothing personal at all.

Motel: $75 x 5 = $375.00 (isn't this split with your partner?)
Food: $40.00 x 5 = 200.00 (you spend $40 a day to eat back at home?)
Gas: $200.00 (Truck only, to and from Grenada)...Your gas to get TO Grenada was purchased outside of Grenada, unless you fill up on your way out of town, IN GRENADA, it's a moot point.) I would think you split this expense too, unless yall bring 2 trucks...
Boat gas, snacks, bait, etc.: $200.00...Here again, it's $40 a day for bait and gas? Snacks...I want to go fishing on your boat...Us poor folk only get potted meat and crackers. Also wouldn't this expense be split with partner?
Boat Oil: $40.00...You bought this in Grenada? Or you brought it with you? Also this is an expense most would split with their partner.
Gift for Wife: $35.00 (Worth a lot more than that!!!) If you only spent $35 on her after claiming to spend $1,200 you better hope she don't read this!!! Good move)
Launch fees: $25.00...Once again split with partner
It appears to me to be a little closer to $1,200 per team (based upon your numbers). $600 for 5 days fishing per person? I still can't grasp it. So trying to wrap my mind around $240 per day ($1,200 per what you said you spent just yourself) is like trying to figure out where outer space ends...
Once again my debate is about the economic impact a big time crappie tourney has (on Grenada). I don't want you to think I'm attacking you or anything. I'm glad we can have an open discussion about different topics. That's what makes CC so great.
Guys - No offense to me at all. I'm enjoying this discussion a lot. I'm very interested in all of your points. I respect everything you are saying very much.
What would be your idea of a perfect tourny format?
Entry?
Payback?
Lenght of tournament?
Trail commision? (You know noone works for free..LOL)
frequency?
etc.....
Good question. Waiting....
I'm gonna guess here, about Midsouth Man, but I'll bet he does it for the following reasons:
1) He likes fishing new water and the challenge of trying to figure out the puzzle.
2) It forces him to learn new tricks.
3) He like the commeraderie of the group.
4) He can do it without impacting his other obligations - time and money.
5) He's hoping to one day become competitive
6) He likes it all - the ups, the downs, the excitement and the boredom.
All of the above is why I fish the FJs. I've got lots of obligations, yes $, but mostly time, that prevent me from joining in anything more. And pretty much all of what I guess MM gets out of the Crappie Masters, I get from the FJs. No, I'm not competitive really, but dang I'm learning a bunch.
Perfect format for me would be once a month, limited travel geographically, no limits on techniques and reasonable entry fees. Basically, the MCC trail....although even as compact as their footprint is, thats too much travel for me. Plus, for me, I don't have the time to pre-fish like I would want to in order to actually compete. And with that level of fisherman, I wouldn't want to just show up and fish. Therefore, it's the FJ for me.
Oh, plus, I enjoy whipping DD like a rented mule and having a whole month to crow about it and watch him squirm in his seat as if he had a terminal case of hemmeroids.
Wannabe...
then the world will be back to normal
Butthead.....hmmmm, that gives me an idea for a side bet. You up for it? Or, should I say down with that?
Wannabe...
WB you know when you mention MCC and "you have to travel to much, etc" one of those morons is gonna get on here and tell you how they do this and that and that and this...
to anything, I must know the terms. Don't trust ya cause you might have a clause in the contract somewhere about me spotting you 4 pounds of something like that. I already got what I want in my head and you WILL NOT like it cause it'll be in front of EVERYONE with lots of cameras flashing. :D:D:D
